The Dorset Dairy Co launches Dorset Strained Yoghurt

Yesterday morning we filled up our little Fiat Panda with as much yoghurt as we could and drove up the 2 mile road from the farm to our local independent supermarket, Dike & Son. After over a year of experimenting with recipes and techniques, we were ready to share our Dorset Strained Yoghurt with the village.

And what a response! Thank you to all those who stopped by to have a chat and a sample, and to those who decided to take some pots home – we sold out! We brought some more in today and it has nearly all gone too. The icing on the cake was finding out that we’d been shortlisted for Best Dairy in the 2016 Taste of Dorset Awards. For those who did not get the chance to meet us, here’s all you need to know:

We believe that natural, unprocessed food with a clear provenance is the best and healthiest kind of food. That’s why we make our yoghurt on the family farm using milk straight from our high-welfare cows and adding nothing but live cultures. We create a thick and creamy yoghurt by hanging it in cloth bags, which strains out most of the lactose (milk sugar) and water while retaining all the dairy goodness (protein, calcium, vitamins A and B).

We produce two types of yoghurt, Whole Milk Dorset Strained Yoghurt and Fat Free Dorset Strained Yoghurt, available in snack pots and family sized tubs. The Whole Milk yoghurt is smooth and creamy while the Fat Free yoghurt has a tangier flavour. They both make a filling breakfast or snack, not to mention a handy ingredient in cooking. We’re constantly developing new recipes so keep up to date by following us on social media or checking our website.
